Everyone needs a little fun in their lives, and Beam Shoes are focused on just that – they make LED light up shoes for adults – what’s not to love? Inspiration for the shoes, that light up for 8 hours at a time, came while founders Serena and Gus (who are also best friends) were dancing the night away at a festival in Iceland. At the next festival on their tour – The Fringe in Edinburgh – they agreed it was definitely a  great idea and decided to make it happen.

Trainers have seen huge growth in sales in recent years, and now come in a multitude of colours, materials, styles and shapes. The Athleisure trend and a move towards increased comfort has also meant that trainers have become acceptable in most places, including work. That’s not to say you’d want to wear your light up trainers everywhere though, and I guess they’re probably not for the faint-hearted.

They’ve just released a silver edition Treadlight which I’ve got my eye on. The shoes start from £49.99 and you can recharge them via a USB cable when the lights run out.

Beam Shoes are also donating £2 from the sale of every pair of original Beams to the Love Support Unite Foundation in Africa which contributes directly to the progression of a self-sustainable Mkunkhu school and the provision of clean drinking water for people in Malawi.
