Bluebird ’82

Bluebird ’82

We were invited to an interesting launch event last Friday, by Puma and size? Now I claim to have a bit of knowledge of the competing trainer brands Adidas and Puma. I’ve read the brilliant book ‘Sneaker Wars’ which is a fascinating account of the two German brands and how they came about and were the first to sponsor sportspeople and sporting events, including the Olympics no less!  So, it was with great  interest that I went to the event which was about reviving the retro Puma trainer they claim was worn by Cardiff City Fans back in the early eighties (the connection is in the ‘Bluebird’ of course).

The event, held in the now sadly closed Cardiff Lunacy boutique, included a display of old news clippings and programmes from Bluebirds matches from the ’80’s.  And of course there was the obligatory bubbly and canapes.

Along with the first showing of the brand new Puma Bluebird trainers, and associated sports kit and clothing, there was also a pair of the original trainers on display.  Aimed at males and females the blue and yellow trainers look pretty good, and for £60 not a bad price.

Let us at Cardiff Fashion know what you think of these Puma trainers, and if you can remember or have heard of Cardiff City fans wearing them in the ’80’s.  It seems to have sparked something of a debate amongst the fans we know, about the significance of this relaunch.

The new trainers and kit will be available at size? Cardiff from the 13th of August or online at size?
