Northern Threads’ Guide to Summer Trends

Northern Threads’ Guide to Summer Trends

You could be forgiven for thinking that Summer has well and truly passed us by….but believe it or not even though we’ve hardly seen a ray of sunshine lately, the summer sales are getting into full swing. So, we thought we’d cover a bit of a round up of the season’s 2012 trends from the catwalk and translate them into some wearable style – this time for men!  We do try to cover menswear more often on Cardiff Fashion, in response to your requests, and this time we teamed up with our friends from Northern Threads who have put together a bit of a catwalk update and linked some key looks to some of their own ranges.

“Patterns are big this season (just take a look at Agi&Sam for a bit of inspiration!) But if you don’t want to go for an all-out pattern look then why not opt for solid colours but livened up with some colour blocking. It’s the perfect way to inject flashes of colour which look great in the sun, by the beach, pool, BBQ, park or wherever you happen to be.

Another key trend is the ‘on the water’ look as if you’ve just stepped onto the jetty, having gotten off your yacht tied up in the harbour. Shorts, open shirts, nautical stripes, an extra layer to combat the coastal chill and the essential boat shoes. The brand responsible for the very first boat shoe is still going strong today and it’s also one we’re proud to stock at Northern Threads. They’re called Sperry Top-Sider and, they keep coming back season after season.

Baseball jackets have been around for a while, most recently seen in the hip-hop/street scene, but they’ve become more mainstream in recent months. They’ve made appearances on the catwalk with Alexander McQueen and Patrik Ervell including them in their collections. But that doesn’t mean you have to shell out a lot of money for this statement piece. There are plenty of affordable options, one being the brand Criminal Damage’s Letterman jacket which has been cropping up on the backs of celebrities including the likes of JLS amongst others.

That’s just a short guide of some of the looks we’ve seen on the catwalk that have come our way onto the high street, and we’ve included some links from Northern Threads and our Summer Sale, which is now on.”
