AI Personal Shopping

At Cardifffashion we’re always interested in how the fashion industry works with new technologies, so we recently took a closer look at London based tech company Dressipi. Dressipi works with some of the biggest names in women’s high street fashion and gives online shopping customers their own personal styling service – with a little help from machine learning.

Originally founded by female entrepreneurs Donna North and Sarah McVittie, Dressipi offers personalised guidance to women while shopping online or instore.

The tech provides intelligent recommendations based on individual shape and style preferences.

Natalie Theo, Style Director at Dressipi explains:

“We teach you how to know what styles suit your shape – and to suit your style better. That totally eliminates so many garment choices that you have to make and takes the stress out of that aspect of shopping”.

How it works…

Dressipi uses unique data sets and artificial intelligence (AI) to help stores find clothes that are just right for each customer. The recommendations aren’t generic ones that everyone receives but are completely personalised.

The platform looks at online shopping behaviours and garment choices, and gives insights on why certain items are bought and returned. It then enables brands to suggest items that shoppers are predicted to like.

Dressipi also assesses previous shopper purchases and any attention paid to fashion trends. Clothing suggestions are then made of items a customer is most likely to be interested in. The more you shop, the more intelligent the data and information.

“We have the best algorithms for fashion in the world, basically. We are leading in this field.”

says Nick Landia, Chief Data Scientist at Dressipi.

A vital part of the Dressipi proposition though is that it isn’t just a tech company, behind the scenes are stylists who know the industry inside out.

Dressipi works with about 30% of the women’s fashion market. This includes some huge names like Topshop, Wallis, John Lewis, Shop Direct and many more. When shoppers are browsing through these sites, they’ll see recommendations powered by Dressipi. The tech is improving revenues for these companies, whilst also cutting down on the number of returns and unwanted items.

What about the future? Well, about 80% of fashion is still bought instore – so this is Dressipi’s next challenge. Understanding how we shop on the high street and and getting the same access to stylist advice and guidance, while browsing the rails of physical stores.
