Hemp Eyewear

Hemp Eyewear

Jessica Velazquez is a new contributor to Cardifffashion. She writes for us about a new eyewear range made from hemp.

With a wealth of information online, chances are you already know how many uses there are for the material hemp. It can be used to produce fibreboard and fabric, hemp seeds are high in fibre and protein so can be used as a supplement, everything you can think of can be better with hemp. But now, and be prepared to get our environmentally conscious minds blown, WE CAN HAVE HEMP EYEWEAR!

Yes, you read right, there is a company based in Edinburgh, Scotland, called Hemp Eyewear, and they’re producing frames made with organic hemp fibre which makes them lightweight and one of a kind.  For someone like me who has been using prescription lenses since I was 7 years old, that’s really important. They are about 22g in weight, so no more frames carving into your nose, I don’t know about you but that sounds amazing to me.

These frames are handcrafted, 100% vegan and recyclable. Even the box for the frames is made from hemp. You can get any (or all) of the 5 unisex designs that can be polarize sunglasses or prescription lenses and at the end of their campaign on Indiegogo Hemp Eyewear will be giving 5% of profits to The Ocean Cleanup project .

Hemp Eyewear launched their first crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and in a few months they were 150% funded. This year they are back and at 26 May are 283% funded. You can see more about the brand here and purchase on Indiegogo.
